    Species Description - Slender, wiry, 1 m. tall or less. Leaves smooth, nearly erect, 1-3 mm. wide, long-attenuate, the lower ones 1.5-2.5 dm. long, the upper shorter; panicle narrow, often 3 dm. long; spikelets about 3 mm. long, crowded on the short appressed branches of the panicle; second scale o^ate-oblong, about one half as long as the spikelet.
