    Description - Leaves over 8 dm. long, sheaths narrowly triangular-ovate, 5 cm. long, entire, dark castaneous, blades to 23 mm. wide, long-acuminate, narrowed at the base, very laxly serrate with straight or curved spines 2 mm. long; inflorescences lateral, complanate, few-flowered; outer bracts broadly ovate, acuminate, 3 cm. long, dark castaneous, sparsely lepidote; floral bracts narrowly lanceolate, acuminate, scarcely over 2 cm. long, castaneous; flowers short-pedicellate; sepals free, narrowly triangular, acuminate, pungent, 16 mm. long; ovary 10 mm. long.
