  Description - Terrestrial or epiphytic herbs; leaves rosulate, entire or serrate; inflorescence laxly paniculate or rarely simple; flowers sessfle or pedicellate, perfect; sepals connate, unarmed or obscurely mucronulate; petals free, naked; stamens included, filaments very short; ovary inferior, placentae apical, ovules few, long-caudate; fruit only slightly enlarged from the ovary.
