    Description - Stem to 1 meter long, about 4 mm. in diameter; leaves evenly and densely distributed along the stem, 16-25 cm, long, sheaths subelliptic, imbricate, brown-lepidote, blades subercct to spreading, very narrowly triangular, acuminate, 4 mm. wide, chartaceous, glabrous above, minutely appressed-lepidote beneath; inflorescence to 5-flowered; floral bracts erect, broadly ovate, apiculate, 25 mm. long, shorter than the sepals, membranaceous, bright red; pedicels slender, 8 mm. long; sepals membranaceous, connate into a slender tube, glabrous, reddish yellow, the free lobes broadly elliptic; petals bright yellow, the free lobes elliptic; obtuse; stamens slightly shorter than the petals, filaments adherent to the petals for most of their length; pistil barely exserted; capsule slenderly clavate, 25 mm. long; coma flavescent.
