Description - Plant 10-12 dm, high; leaves 3-6 dm. long, sheaths elliptic, 15 cm. long, brown, sparsely punctulate-Iepidote, blades ligulate, acute, 4-6 cm. wide, flat, coriaceous, glabrous above; scape erect, stout; scape-bracts imbricate, the lower foliaceous, the upper lanceolate, acute; inflorescence laxly pyramidal, glabrous; primary bracts like the upper scape-bracts, slightly exceeding the short bracteate sterile bases of the branches; spikes spreading, lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, acute, complanate, 8-13 cm. long, 8-12-flowered; floral bracts imbricate, ovate, acute, 20-25 mm. long, exceeding the sepals, carinate, even, sublustrous; sepals free, coriaceous, even.
