Description
Description - Flowering plant 1-2 meters high; leaves 3-6 dm. long, sheaths suborbicular, denticulate, their upper third dark castaneous elsewhere stramineous, blades linear, long-acuminate, 2-4 cm. wide, sparsely and very obscurely lepidote, very laxly serrate with dark straight or uncinate spines 3-5 mm. long; scape erect about 20 mm, in diameter, ferruginous-lanate; scape-bracts imbricate, the lower ones subfoliaceous, the upper broadly elliptic with a small narrowly triangular serrulate apex, dark brown, lustrous; inflorescence cylindric, lax at anthesis, brown-lanatc; floral bracts elliptic, acute, nearly equaling the sepals, entire or obscurely denticulate, soon glabrous, dark brown, rugulose; pedicels 15-25 mm, long; sepals lanceolate, 22-26 mm. long; petals 5-6 cm. long, yellow-green to violet; stamens included.
