Cells in midlobe ca. 25-40 µm, trigones small to large, intermediate thickenings frequent. Lobules ovoid, sometimes reduced, when well-developed 1/3-2/5 of lobe length, strongly inflated over most of their length, slightly flattened towards apex, usually with a small, rounded, 1-celled tooth; distal end of free margin at least in some lobules truncate and connected to surface of lobe across 2-3 cells. Underleaves contiguous to imbricate, broadly ovate, 3-6 times stem width, apex plane or recurved, bases cuneate or rounded, insertion line curved to arched (less than 0.1 mm deep). Autoicous. Female bracteoles usually broadly ovate, very large, covering perianth, margins ± entire. Perianths immersed (rarely slightly emergent), with 4-5 strongly laciniate keels, laciniae emerg¬ing beyond bracteoles.
