  • Description

Species Description - Plants 0.3-0.6 mm wide. Leaf lobes obliquely to widely spreading, symmetrical, short oblong, lobes 1.5-2 times longer than wide, flat, apex broadly rounded (in young leaves sometimes somewhat pointed), margins irregularly crenulate in upper 1/2. Cells in mid-lobe 15-20 x 15 µm, evenly thick-walled with small, subconfluent trigones and intermediate thickenings; ocelli 2 in a broken row in lower 1/2 of leaf, basal ocellus separated from the next by 1 cell, occasionally 1-2 small ocelli present in upper 1/2 of lamina. Lobules mostly reduced, when well-developed large, to 1/2 of leaf lobe, fully inflated, lateral free margin bordered by 4 narrow, rectangular cells, apical free margin by 2 cells; apical tooth long, falcate, 1-celled, preapical tooth reduced. Underleaf lobes rather long, obliquely to usually horizontally diverging, 3-4 cells long, 1 cell wide, cells narrow, rectangular. Autoicous. Perianth keels extended above into short, toothed, horn-like projections.

  • Discussion

This species resembles Leptolejeunea by its leaf shape but differs from species of the latter genus by the unbordered underleaves, long- falcate lobule tooth, small leaf cells, and presence of innovations.
