    Description - Plants 2-4 mm wide, 5-25 cm long, dark green, feather-like, regularly or irregularly pinnate to bipinnate. Leaf lobes ovate- oblong, when dry strongly convolute, when moist spreading and often somewhat falcate, apex acute, margins irregularly toothed in upper 1/2. Cells in midlobe elongate, 20-35 x 10-15 µm, trigones well-developed, intermediate thickenings numerous, 1-3 on longer walls. Lobules small, to 1/5 of leaf length, ovate, free margin plane or inflexed, without teeth. Underleaves broadly ovate to elongate- spathulate, ca. 2 times stem width, apex rounded to truncate, sharply toothed, lateral margins plane or narrowly recurved, entire or toothed above middle.
