Description
Species Description - Plants very small, 0.5-0.8 mm wide, dark and glossy reddish purple to blackish, closely appressed to substrate, loosely pinnate, forming thin, flat mats. Leaf lobes widely spreading, broadly ovate, apex rounded, plane, margins entire, dorsal base broadly auriculate. Cells in upper part of leaf subisodiametrical, 10-20 µm long, thin- walled, walls not sinuose, trigones small, intermediate thickenings lacking; ocelli absent. Lobules close to stem, erect, short subcylindrical, 1.2-1.5 times longer than wide, not laminate, base very nar¬rowly attached to lobe (by only a few cells). Stylus minute, erect, filiform. Underleaves bifid to 1/2 of length, distant, 1.5-2 times stem width, ovate, margins entire, plane, bases cuneate. Autoicous or dioicous. Gynoecia on long shoots, margins of bracts and bracteoles entire. Perianths flattened, obpyriform, with 3 smooth keels, ventral keel low, short.

Discussion
Dioicous forms of F. kunzei with lobules to 1.5 times longer than wide were previously called F. neesii (Gradstein & Costa, 2003).
