    Species Description - Plants 1.5-3 mm wide, brown, creeping, little branched. Stems rigid, with rather uniform, thick-walled cells; ventral stolons lacking. Leaves subopposite, widely spreading, imbricate, slightly concave, ovate, subsymmetrical to asymmetrical with ventral margin arched and hooked at base and dorsal margin almost straight; apex broadly rounded, margins entire, leaf insertion almost reaching dorsal mid line of stem, leaving a 1-cell-wide, dorsal strip leaf-free. Cells in midleaf isodiametrical, ca. 30 µm in diameter, with large, swollen trigones, cell lumen angular. Underleaves deeply bifid, lobes narrow lanceolate, outer margins with 1-2 long, narrow teeth, underleaf bases narrowly connected to leaves on 1 or both sides. Rhizoids in long, brownish tufts from stem near underleaf bases.
