    Species Description - Plants medium-sized to fairly robust, in ± lustrous, green to brownish, mostly lax mats; primary stems to ca. 6 cm long, sparsely branched, obscurely complanate-foliate when dry. Leaves stiff and bright-green when alive, contorted when dry, sometimes also when moist, wide-spreading dry or moist, oblong to oblong-ovate, asymmetric, abruptly short-acuminate or cuspidate, (1.8)2.2-2.7 x 0.6-0.9 mm; margins serrulate to serrate above, plane, bordered by ca. 4 rows of elongate cells near midleaf, often only ca. 2 rows at apex and with shorter cells, at base becoming ± indistinct due to elongation of adjacent laminal cells; costa ending 1/2-2/3 the leaf length; cells rhomboidal to hexagonal, 1-2:1, 40-100 x 28-40 µm, thick-walled, becoming somewhat longer at apex and extending into the acumen, becoming rectangular toward insertion, 3-4:1, and obscuring border. Asexual propagula not seen. Dioicous. Setae papillose throughout, 1.2-1.5 cm long; capsules 1.5-2 mm long. Calyptrae with multi- seriate, rather short ramenta, slightly roughened at apex.

    In streams and along waterfalls in non-flooded moist forests, rare, 200-500 m, on rocks.
