    Species Description - Plants mostly dark green, in dense to lax mats; stems subpin¬nately branched, to ca. 8 cm long. Lateral leaves contorted when dry, spreading when moist, asymmetric, oblong-ovate, ca. 2.5 x 1.2 mm; margins serrulate to serrate above; costa long- excurrent; cells long-hexagonal to rhombic, to 20 x 10 µm, becoming somewhat longer toward the insertion. Dorsal leaves much smaller, not contorted when dry, triangular-lanceolate to ovate-triangular, ca. 1.5 x 0.8 mm; margins entire to serrate; costa long-excurrent, comprising to half the leaf length; cells as in dorsal leaves. Setae 2-3 cm long; capsules 2.5-3 mm long, cylindric, curved, furrowed throughout; exostome cross-striolate below; endostome with well developed segments and cilia. Calyptrae cucullate, sparsely hairy.
