    Species Description - Plants medium-sized, 0.75-2(4) cm tall, mostly dark green, often in dense but small turfs. Leaves tightly twisted when dry, lanceolate- subulate from an expanded base, 5-6 x 0.75-0.9 mm; margins thickened ca. 5-stratose, subentire above, serrate near shoulders; costa subpercurrent to short-excurrent, distinctly excurrent, gemmiferous leaves; cells quadrate to short-rectangular 7-14 x 7-9 µm, smooth abaxially, mammillose to mammillose-unipapillose adaxially; teniolae conspicuous, 4-6 cells wide at shoulders, of elongate, thick-walled cells, ending well below midleaf; cancellinae meeting costa at acute angles, cells smooth. Asexual reproduction by gemmae; gemmiferous leaves not strongly differentiated; gemmae infrequent, on adaxial surface of leaf apices. Setae 3-4 mm long; capsules ca. 2.5 mm long.
