Description
Species Description - Plants small, to ca. 8 mm tall. Leaves to 1 x 0.4 mm, acute to apiculate, vaginant laminae ± equal; margins crenulate-serrulate, limbate 1/3 -1/2 of length of vaginant laminae of perichaetial leaves and those immediately subtending; costa subpercurrent to percurrent; cells rounded to hexagonal, 6-10 µm in diameter, unipapillose.

Discussion
Fissidens lagenarius is divided into two varieties, both of which were collected on Mont Galbao. The var. lagenarius [syn: F. diplodus Mitten var. wainionis (Muller Hal.) Pursell] has laminal cells with low, unforked papillae, while the var. muriculatus (Mitten) Pursell [syn.: F. diplodus Mitten] has laminal cells with long, often forked papillae.
