    Latin Diagnosis - Herba perennis 1.5-2.6 dm alta, caulibus foliosis tribus simplicibus dense strigosis 2 mm diam; foliis sessilibus oppositis 5-8-jugis inferioribus lanceolatis supremis ovatis supra breviter puberulis subtus quinque nervis dense strigosis omnino longitudinem exceptis pallido-papillatis sed glabris vel fere glabris, paribus inferioribus 18-30 × 6-7 mm paribus superioribus reductis 11-12 × 5-6 mm, nervis e basi quinque subtus parce manifestis subsulcatis subtus manifeste strigosis; capitulis duobus vel tribus elongatis cylindricis 6-7 × 2-3 mm in axillis foliorum insidentibus, pilis numerosis stramineis 0.7-0.8 mm longis sub axibus inflorescentiae; calyce hypanthioque 0.7 mm longo, calyce 0.2 mm longo, calycis lobis duobus subfoliaceis elliptico-ovatis acutis sub anthesi 1.5 × 0.9-1 mm utrinque subsericeo-pilosis; corolla breviter infundibuliform! 1.6-1.7 mm longa, tubo 1-1.2 mm longo basi 0.3-0.4 mm lato fauce 1 mm lato intus fauce sparsim piloso ceterum glabro, lobis quatuor ovatis subacutis 0.5 × 0.5-0.6 mm prope infraque apicem pilis paucis brevibus instructis, cystolithis numerosis munitis; staminibus quatuor sessilibus infra sinus loborum corollae insertis, antheris suborbicularibus vel late oblongis apice rotundatis 0.2-0.3 mm longis; stylo 1-1.5 mm longo glabro, stigmate subcapitato emarginate; ovario basi dense hispido-piloso; seminibus suborbicularibus 0.7-0.8 mm diam.

  • Discussion

    This species differs from all other taxa in the genus by virtue of the minute corollas and broad ovate or lanceolate leaves which are densely strigose beneath in five distinct areas. From its nearest relative, P. plantaginea (H.B.K.) Hook, f., it differs in the much smaller corollas and calyx lobes, as well in having several pairs of sessile lanceolate to ovate cauline leaves.
