This taxon was described originally from Jamaican material. It is characterized by slender stems 0.4-0.5 mm in diameter with elongated hairs on the angles, narrow linear leaves 10-13 × 0.5-1.2 mm with upper surface pubescent with hairs 0.2-1 mm long or rarely glabrous, or hispidulous on both sides, the midrib beneath strongly hispidulous, the margins hispidulous-ciliate, the small cocci 2.5-3 × 1.9-2.2 mm with short, appressed, hispidulous pubescence on the lower half replaced above by erect hispid hairs, the stipular sheaths with shorter, white, slender setae 1 mm or less long intermixed with 6-7 longer setae 2-3 mm long which are glabrous except for appressed hairs at their bases.
