Schumann recognized several varieties under Coutarea hexandra in his treatment of that taxon in Martius’s Flora Brasiliensis (6, part 6: 196-198. 1889). A study of two taxa described from Venezuela, C. Campanilla DC. and C. lindeniana Baill., would indicate that they are better treated as varieties of C. hexandra, as shown in the following treatment.
