In the Munich Herbarium ten sheets are labelled Remijia firmula. The specimen from which the Field Museum type photo was obtained is the large-leaved variation. Other specimens at Munich match the shorter-leaved variations, such as shown by Steyermark 57902, Williams 15558, and Maguire & Politi 27857. These smaller-leaved variations are frequently specimens taken from fruiting branches. The capsules vary in length from 1-2.7 cm long.
