Description
Distribution and Ecology - Distribution. Rather widespread in the Amazon Basin and the lower slopes of the Andes from Peru to Colombia and Venezuela; locally frequent at low elevations in tropical rain forest often at relatively wet places and on the mountain slopes up to about 1000 m elevation.

Type. Not designated.
Oenocarpus bataua proved to be common in the western part of Terr. Amazonas, Venezuela at low elevations. Since the species was found in the Andes at elevations up to about 1000 m, its occurrence at moderate altitudes in the Guayana Highland may be expected.
