Description
Distribution and Ecology - Distribution. Endemic to Venezuelan Amazonas; rare in rocky savanna. VENEZUELA. Amazonas: Puerto Ayacucho, 100 m alt, Ll. Williams 13008 (F); Puerto Ayacucho, 200 m alt, Steyermark 58512 (F, NY), Alto Río Orinoco, Maypures, Spruce 3614 (K, NY), island of El Ratón, 100 m alt, Ll. Williams 13675 (F); Bolívar: Río Parguaza, Velez 2340 (VEN).

Type. Spruce 3614 (K) from Maypures, Upper Orinoco, Venezuela.
This is a distinct species differing from its closest allies, R. mexicana and R. trichochaeta, by its indefinitely larger spikelets, which are 8 to 9 mm vs 5 to 6 mm long.
