Distribution and Ecology - General distribution. Tropical and subtropical America; naturalized in some places in the Old World tropics. Terrestrial or epipetric at low (or rarely middle) elevations.Guayana Highland distribution. BRITISH GUIANA. Mount Roraima, alt. 5100-5200 ft, Tate 354 (US); Ayanganna Plateau, Upper Mazaruni River basin, Tillett, Tillett & Boy an 44876 (K, NY, US).

Type. According to Tryon (Contr. Gray Herb. 189: 60. 1962), LINN sheet 1245.19 (BM, photo A and GH, none seen) is this species.
