Distribution and Ecology - BRAZIL. Amapa: Rio Jari, Egler fa Irwin 46389; Rio Oiapoque, Irwin, Pires, fa Westra 47596; Rio Araguari, Pires, Rodrigues & Irvine 50360.

  • Discussion

A widespread species, ranging from Mexico and Cuba to subtropical South America, but not common in Guiana. As has been noted18, C. diphylla varies in habit from a prostrate herb to an erect few-branched subshrub 1.5 m tall. Field and experimental studies have not progressed sufficiently for any conclusions to be reached regarding habit and geography. However, the three cited collections, first reports for Amapa, are all from erect plants. In addition, numerous other stands were seen, none of which included plants of differing habit.
