Distribution and Ecology - BRAZIL. Amapa: Rio Jari, Egler & Irwin 46081; Rio Urucaua, Monte Tipac, Irwin 48769.This widespread species is highly variable over its total range, but within Guiana variation lies chiefly in the degree of thorn expression. Irwin 48769, with stems quite thornless and rachis thorns weakly developed, is similar to Broadway 115, from the "vicinity of Cayenne," and also to the much removed Rusby & Squires s.n., from Edo. Bolivar, Venezuela. Egler Irwin 46081 is more typical in the development and distribution of thorns.
