    Lauraceae

  • Scientific Name

    Nectandra pisi Miq.

  • Discussion

Vernacular Name. Louro (Irwin et al).

The relationships of variations within the species have already been discussed (Mem. N. Y. Bot. Gard. 10(5): 118-120. 1964). The specimen from Amapa is typical of the taxon as it occurs in Suriname (Focke, holotype, fl. U, which I have examined) and other low-lying regions. The fruit in the packet on the type sheet is not that described by Mez, and seemingly not lauraceous. Typically a Nectandra fruit, however, is that of the Westra 47426. The leaves of this number vary considerably from those of the few representatives of the species collected in fruit to date. The specimen from Bolivar, Venezuela, again, different in leaf habit, falls well within the range of variation of the species as it is found in the upland areas of the Guayana sandstone region.
