Discussion
Somewhat similar is A. auritum var. intermedium Mett., which is based on A. umbrosum Kaulf. Enum. Fil. 168. 182417 (type: Brazil, Chamisso, not seen), non A. umbrosum Vill., 1786. This variety apparently forms a transition between var. auritum and var. bipinnatifidum, being just slightly but not deeply pinnatifid, thus being more divided than var. auritum and less so than in var. bipinnatifidum. It has not been found in Venezuela, apparently, but is perhaps to be expected there.
