Description
Genus Description - Mikania Willd. includes about 400 species, primarily in the New World tropics and subtropics, but with about eleven species occurring in the N e w World temperate zone or in the warmer regions of the eastem hemisphere. The genus consists primarily of vining species with heads that consistantly have four phyllaries and four florets. About 26 species are known from Guayana, including the two new species described below. Useful reference works for the genus in Guayana include Robinson (1922), Koster (1938), Barroso (1958), Aristeguieta (1964), Holmes and McDaniel (1982), and King and Robinson (1987).
