Description
Species Description - Shrub ca 2 m tall, the branchlets tomentulose, glabrescent; stipules caducous, ca 6 mm long, 1 mm wide, narrowly lanceolate, densely tomentulose externally, glabous within; petioles 3.5-4 cm long, marginate, sparingly tomentulose; rachis 10-15 cm long, marginate, stipellate at each pair of leaflets, sparingly tomentulose, the stipels 2-3 mm long; leaflets coriaceous, 3- or 4-jugate, the petiolules 1 mm long or shorter, tomentulose, the blades 8.5-11 cm long, 4-5.5 cm wide, ovate to elliptic-ovate, the base cordate, the apex obtuse, the two surfaces strongly discolorous, glabrous above, sparingly tomentose beneath, the venation plane above, salient beneath; inflorescences racemose or panicled-racemose, 7-17 cm long, the axis densely tomentulose, ramuligerous, the bracts deciduous, 3-4 mm long and wide, more or less ovate, densely tomentulose externally, glabrous within, the bracteoles persistent, arising near the apex of the pedicels, 2-3 mm long, lanceolate, tomentulose externally, glabrous within; pedicels 7-10 mm long, tomentulose; buds globose to broadly ovate in outline, ca 7 mm in diameter, densely tomentulose; calyx segments 3 or 4, more or less elliptic, glabrous on the inner surface; petal white, villose externally and at the base on the inner surface, the claw 3 mm long, the blade 10-15 mm long, 15-20 mm wide, oblate, the base somewhat cordate; larger stamens 4, the filaments villose, 7 mm long, the anthers oblong, 3 mm long, 1 mm wide, the smaller stamens glabrous, the filaments 5-7 mm long, the anthers ca 1 mm long and wide, subquadrate; gynoecium unipistillate, the stigma punctiform, the style glabrous, 1 mm long, the ovary sericeous, ca 7 mm long and 2 mm wide, narrowly arcuate-elliptic, the gynophore sericeous, ca 4 mm long; fruits not seen.

Discussion
This species is quite closely related to S. macrostachya but differs in the shape of the leaflets and leaflet base, the size and shape of the stipules, and in the devolute leaflet margin of S. grazielana. The strongly discolorous leaflet surfaces of this species also separate it from its nearest relative, S. macrostachya.

Distribution
Known only by the type collection from the savanna association in west-central Minas Gerais.
