Description
Genus Description - Trees or shrubs with 1-3-foliolate, alternate leaves. Inflorescences paniculate, terminal and axillary, the flowers pentamerous. Calyx cupular, 5-toothed, rarely with distinct lobes, the corolla several to many times longer than the calyx, the tube straight, cylindric, often narrowly so, the lobes of the limb equal, imbricate. Stamens five to eight, 3-6 reduced to more or less linear staminodia, the filaments united in a tube coherent with the corolla tube; fertile anthers with sterile, basal appendages. Ovary enclosed in the cupular disk, the style about as long as the corolla tube, 5-lobed, the stigma 3-5-lobed. Segments of the fruit 1-seeded, joined apically and basally.
