  • Discussion

Known from a single incomplete specimen in bud, this appears to represent a distinctive taxon. The leaves (unlike those of the group of E. pseudopsidium which this plant somewhat resembles) are coriaceous, rigid when dry with somewhat revolute margins, ovate, 10-13 cm long, 4-6 cm wide, narrowly long-acuminate, abruptly and broadly rounded at base to a stout dark petiole about 1 cm long; the entire plant is glabrous except for the ciliate margins of the bracts, bracteoles and flower parts; the dried leaves are lustrous as if thinly varnished on both surfaces; the midvein is convex above at least distally, and broad but sometimes flat or biconvex near the base of the blade; the other fohar veins are indistinctly visible in a way that suggests that the fresh leaves are somewhat fleshy; the flowers are in short glabrous racemes, on pedicels 5-10 m m long; the bracteoles narrowly triangular or elliptic but apparently persistent; the buds 6-7 m m long; the calyx-lobes broad and thin, the inner ones up to 5 m m long and wide; ovary bilocular, the ovules 20-25 in each locule.
