  • Discussion

For description see Fieldiana Bot. 2 4 : 367. 1963. A native probably of southern Brazil, this species is now planted in most tropical regions. The usual English name is Suriname cherry. Presumably it is not native in northern South America, although it has several times been reported from the Guianas, e.g., "Surinamo. C. G. Dahlberg," the type of Plinia pedunculata L. f., Suppl. PI. 253. 1781; and "in Paramaribo (Parker)," by Berg in Linnaea 27: 310. 1856. Berg and Amshoff (Fl. Suriname 3(2): 116. 1951) referred Eugenia! parkeriana D C . without question to the synonymy of E. uniflora (Stenocalyx michelii Berg), but as pointed out above under E. patrisii, E. parkeriana was a mixture, and the name is logically typified by the E. patrisii specimen.
