Discussion
Myrthus [sic] carnea G. Mey., Prim. Fl. Esseq. 191. 1818.
From the description in the protologue this is evidently a Myrcia; I have not been able to see the type or other authentic material, and cannot guess what species it m a y represent. The leaves are said to be 3-3.5 inches long, acuminate and glabrous; the calyx is said to be 5-fld, tomentose, the "tube" yellowish ["lutescenti-cano"], the lobes obtuse and somewhat oblong, fleshy like the anthers and the pubescent petals. Amshoff (Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard. 45: 175. 1958) imphed that M . carnea might be similar to or identical with M . coumete. Dr. F.-G. Schroeder kindly informs m e that no material of this species can be located among Meyer's plants at G O E T.
