Description
Species Description - Planta florifera 3-4 d m alta; caule ignoto. Folia ad 21 cm longa; vaginis suborbicularibus, 2-3 cm longis, stramineis; laminis anguste triangularibus, haud pungentibus, 3 cm latis, utrinque lepidibus albis parvis laceratis laxe vestitis sed mox glabris, angustissime cartilagineo-marginatis, basi obscure serrulatis. Scapus erectus vel curvatus, basi 1 cm diametro, lepidibus albis laceratis vel linearibus dense vestitus; scapi bracteis erectis, subfoliaceis, internodia superantibus sed supremis scapum haud obtegentibus. Inflorescentia bipinnatim paniculata, subdensa sed basi interrupta, petalis exceptis dense tomentoso-lepidota; bracteis primariis subtriangularibus, ramos subaequantibus; ramis divergentibus vel patentibus, infimis basi sterili longa inclusa ad 6 cm longis, dense florigeris. Bracteae florigerae hneares, pedicellos superantibus; pedicellis gracilibus, ad 8 mm longis. Sepala anguste ovata, obtusa, 10 mm longa, tenuia, viridescentia; petalis late obovatis, 15 mm longis, albis; antheris basi profunde cordatis; ovulis breviter caudatis.

Type. Frequent along open slopes to base of chffs, Rio Negro, Rio Cauaburi, Serra da Neblina, alt 2550-2700 m , 2 Dec 1965, Amazonas, Brazil, Bassett Maguire, Joao Murga Pires & Celia K. Maguire 60478 (holotype U S ; isotype N Y ) .
