  • Authority

Cowan, Richard S. 1967. Swartzia (Leguminosae, Caesalpinioideae Swartzieae). Fl. Neotrop. Monogr. 1: 3-228. (Published by NYBG Press)

  • Family

    Fabaceae

  • Scientific Name

    Swartzia macrophylla Willd. ex Vogel

  • Type

Type collection. A. von Humboldt 5652 (holotype B), in umbrosis pr. Nares, Colombia, 1803. Several sheets from Paris which surely represent this species are indicated as a Bonpland collection; these are probably isotypes but none bear flowers. Dr. Schultze at Berlin was most kind in sending photographs of the Willdenow material.

  • Description

  • Discussion

Although this species is very incompletely known, it is not possible to identify it with any other at this time. It is nearest S. amplifolia in floral characters but more like S. pinnata in the venation of the leaflets.

  • Distribution

(Fig. 11). Known only from the type collection from central Colombia.
