Rapanea ferruginea (Ruiz & Pavon) Mez in Urban, Symb. Ant. 2: 429. 1901.
This is by far the most common species in the West Indies; it is found throughout tropical America from Mexico to Argentina. In Hispaniola, its distribution is widespread mostly in pine forests above 1000 m, and is often found growing in association with other species, mainly M . magnolifolia and M . nubicola. Vernacular names: Bois Plomb, Bois Savane, Botoncillo Cimarron, Hojita Larga, Palo de Sabana, Palo Santo.
