Description
Latin Diagnosis - Herba parva, stolonifera; foliis rotundato-ovatis, palmatim 5-nerviis.
Species Description - Small, trailing herb; stem about 1 mm thick when dry; leaves round-ovate, mostly 1-1.5 cm wide, palmately 5-nerved; petiole scarcely 1 cm long; spikes up to 5 cm long; peduncle about 1 cm long.

Discussion
The smaller size of all parts of the variety is in strong contrast with those specimens which represent the species. This species is readily recognized by the winged ridges on the stems and leaves, and the character of the stiliferous fruits. In the variety the wings are discontinuous, short, and more or less cristate.
