Description
Species Description - Mature fruits globose, large, the largest examined 7 cm in diam; shell thin, about 1.5 mm thick, hard but fragile, nearly black, shining, smooth; testa crustaceous; seeds many, ±8, more or less discoid, about 21 mm long and 19 mm broad; fruit-pedicels ±9 mm in diam (Reitz & Klein 3488 and others). Fruits and seeds resemble those of S. tomentosa, S. panamensis and S. tabascana but are smaller.

Discussion
Strychnos trinervis is a large bush-rope which abounds in tropical and semitropical forests of the eastern states from Paraiba to and including Santa Catarina in Brazil (found also in Santa Cruz, Bolivia).
