This species shows great variation in size and shape of leaves, which gave rise to several binomials and trinomials; the forms with more membranaceous blade were described as R. submembranacea (Krukoff 8513, 2041), the ones with more narrow blades are R. laurifolia (Krukoff 8776).

Distribution
Confined to western Amazonas of Brazil and the neighboring Casiquiare area of Venezuela.
