Discussion
5. Clytostoma Miers ex Bureau, Adansonia 8: 353. 1868. Type. C callistegioides (Cham.) Bur. ex Griseb. In fruit the echinate capsule is similar only to that of Pithecoctenium, which differs in straight rather than curved-tipped spines and a much larger seed. The magenta flower of Clytostoma is of the ''Cydista-type" and characterized by its glandular-warty ovary and lack of a disc. It ranges throughout condnental tropical America. A single species reaches upland Guayana.
