    Latin Diagnosis - Frutex erectus 0.5-1.5 m altus; ramis glabris. Folia summa vulgo erecta saepe adpressa, foliis effusis vel ascendentibus, 4-6 x 0.9-1 mm, dorsah leviter sulcata, marginibus acute angulatis, in maturis glabris vel puberulis, apice in glandulam obtusam vel rotundatam atropurpuream producta, secus margines 1-7 glandulis sub apice instructa; petiolo puberulo mox glabro, 0.5-0.7 mm longo. Flores 2-4 ad apices ramorum congestis; pedicelhs 2-10 mm longis modice hirtis; sepalis 6-7, carinatis, lineari-lanceolatis, 6-7 x 1-1.2 mm, apice atropurpureo rotundato glandula producta obsitis facie dorsali glabris vel puberulis, marginibus breviciliatis et interdum glandulosis; petalis 5, obovato-oblongis, apice rotundatis, 14-15 X 6 mm; staminibus 7; filamentis basi dilatatis, 4 mm longis; antheris hnearioblongis, 2.2 mm longis, basi rotundatis; ovario 3.5 mm longo; stylo 3 mm longo.

    Type. VENEZUELA. Edo Bolivar: Chimanta Massif, Apacapa-tepui, northwestern part of summit, 2125-2300 m alt, 13 Apr 1953, shrub 3-5 ft tall, leaves silvery beneath; petals deep red, near sandstone outcrop, Bonnetia forest, Steyermark 74886 (holotype NY, isotypes F, VEN).
