Para: J. Huber MG 1849 (cit. 1840) (MGt, isotype RB). Variation. As can be seen from the descriptions there are several differences between the two subspecies especially with regard to the shape of the leaves and the size of the flowers, but there is so much variation within these features that mostly only the shape and surface of the fruit allow a clear distinction between the two entities. Note. One specimen from Para (Lower Rio Moju, near Fabrica, Ducke RB 18028, RB, U) possesses the elongate smooth fruits characteristic for subsp grandifolia, hence its origin from Eastern Amazonia is debatable, a confusion of labels possibly having occurred.
