    Latin Diagnosis - Herbae perennes valde glaucae, caudice simplici brevi; foliis paucis, laminis 40-60 cm longis, teretibus, sursum plano-eompressis, 1.5-2.5 mm latis, minute punctatis, obtusis; vaginis 10-15 cm longis., pallidis, saepe ex laminis; scapis pluribus teretibus, saepe tumidis, 50-80 cm longis, 2-4 mm diam.; inflorescentia globosa, multispicata, 14-18 mm diam., bibracteata; bracteis lineari-lanceolatis, 2-4 cm longis, 1.5-2.0 mm latis, acutiusculis, demum reflexis; spicis lanceolatofusiformibus, 9-11 mm longis; bracteolis 25-30, gradatis, 3-6 mm longis, ovatis vel sursum lanceolatis, acutis, exterioribus rufis, 1-nervatis, interioribus pallidis, 5-7-nervatis; sepalis 3, lanceolatis, 7-8 mm longis, ad basim scariosis, connatis, sursum aliquantum induratis; petalis 3, luteis, inclusis, ca. 5 mm longis, laminis oblongo-ovatis, apiculatis, ca. 2.5 mm longis, minute maculatis, unguibus ad basim connatis, ca. 2.5 mm longis; staminibus 6; filamentis scariosis, planis, ca. 3 mm longis, ad basim tubo corollae adnatis; antheris 4-thecatis, lanceolatis, ca. 3 mm longis, poro solitario oblique dehiscentibus; stylo subulato, stigmate apieali truncato plus minusve coneavo; ovario 3-loculari, 3-ovulato, ovulis basifixis; capsula oblonga, ca. 3 mm longa, ad apicem depressa; seminibus oblongis, 2.0-2.3 mm longis, aliquantum 3-angulatis, minute apiculatis, testa hyalina in longitudine striata.

  • Discussion

    Type: perennial herb with yellow flowers, herbage glaucous, scapes becoming somewhat tumid, frequent, marshy area, sabanita 1 km east of Maroa, at 130 m alt., Rio Guainia, Terr. Amazonas, Venezuela, April 16, 1053, Maguire d' Wurdack 35697 (holotype NY). Paratype: Abundant, sabanita 1 km east Maroa, type locality, Nov 25, Maguire, Wurdack & Bunting 36417

    Known only from the vicinity of Maroa, but there abundant.
