  • Description

    Description - Plant caulescent; stem flexuous. Leaves densely imbricate; sheaths ovate, 4-6 cm long, entire, dark castaneous, densely appressed-brown-lepidote; blades dimorphic, some reduced to small flexuous slender laxly serrulate flagellae, others long-petiolate, linear-lanceolate, attenuate at both ends, 8 dm long, 35 mm wide, glabrous above, beneath densely appressed-white-lepidote, serrulate toward apex, the petiole very laxly serrate. Scape erect, flexuous, white-flocculose; scape-bracts exceeding the internodes, lanceolate, long-acuminate and serrulate toward apex, green. Inflorescence simple, sublax, 4 dm long, except for the petals sparsely white-flocculose. Floral bracts thin, the lower like the scape-bracts, about equaling the flowers, the highest floral bracts linear-lanceolate, not exceeding the pedicels; pedicels spreading, slender, to 3 cm long. Sepals linear-lanceolate, acute, 30 mm long, ecarinate, red; petals 50 mm long, red, bearing a truncate erose scale at base; ovary ca 1/2 inferior; ovules winged.
