    Species Description - Dorsal and lateral branch leaves somewhat contorted or sometimes ± falcate when dry, broadly oblong-ovate, abmptly short-acuminate; margins entire or obscurely sermlate above; upper cells shortly oblong-hexagonal, ca. 2-4:1, those in single marginal rows noticeably narrower than the median cells. Ventral leaves lanceolate or ovate-lanceolate, gradually acuminate, with cells 4-5:1.

    This variety differs from the var. vesicularis in its dorsal and lateral leaves with somewhat longer median cells and rather distinctly narrowed marginal cells. Also the ventral leaves are narrower and longer-celled.

    On moist logs and stumps, roots and bases oftrees as well as rock and soil at low altitudes (ca. 150-900 m); Chiapas, Oaxaca, Puebla, San Luis Potosi, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Yucatan.—Mexico to northern South America; West Indies; southern Florida.
