  • Description

    Species Description - Stems up to 3 cm long and (with leaves) 1-4 mm wide, subjulaceous to ± flattened. Leaves 1-2.5 mm long, 0.4-1 mm wide near the middle, ovate-lanceolate, acuminate, smooth; margins plane or incurved below the middle, sometimes sermlate near the apex; costa extending to the midleaf or somewhat above it; cells 94-188 x 7-9 µm, shorter at the apex and base, smooth; alar cells quadrate or short-rectangular and sometimes oblate. Setae 7-10 mm long; capsules 1.5-3 mm long, erect, cylindric to ellipsoidal, not contracted below the mouth when dry; operculum reported to be obliquely shortrostrate; exostome teeth up to 300 µm long. Spores 15-27 µm.

    This species differs from E. rhabdodonta in having longer leaf cells. Additional collection and study may reveal that the two are synonymous.

    On trunks and branches of trees at elevations up to 1700 m; Jalisco and Nayarit.—Endemic.
