    Species Description - Plants of medium to fairly robust stature, in flat, loose, slightly glossy, green or yellow-green mats. Stems prostrate, irregularly pinnate-branched; branches tapered, ± flattened. Leaves spreading to wide-spreading when dry, more spreading when moist, ± complanate. Stem leaves slightly concave, neither plicate nor decurrent, 1-2.3 x 0.6-1.1 mm, ovate-lanceolate to oblong-ovate, slenderly acuminate, often twisted at the tip; margins serrate to near the base; costa gradually tapered, ending at or above the midleaf, sometimes as a dorsal spine; median cells linear-flexuose, 45-185 x 5-9 µm, slightly shorter in the acumen; basal cells ± lax, linear to rectangular, 20-50 x 5-17 µm; alar cells rectangular, 15-38 x 6-17 µm, occasionally bordered by long, slender cells (16-65 x 4-10 µm). Branch leaves 1-2.2 x 0.3-0.8 mm, ovate-lanceolate, acuminate. Autoicous. Perichaetial leaves up to 2.4 mm long, tapered to a long, slender acumen from a sheathing base. Setae red, smooth, 10-24 mm long; capsules 0.8-2.2 x 0.5-1 mm, slightly curved, oblong-cylindric, constricted below the mouth when dry; annulus of 2 layers of inflated cells; operculum conic-rostrate, up to 1.3 mm long; cilia of endostome 2-3, nodose. Spores 7-17 µm, nearly smooth.
