  • Scientific Name

Thuidium delicatulum var. radicans (Kindb.) H.A.Crum, Steere & L.E.Anderson

  • Description

Species Description - Stem leaves 1-1.5 mm long (averaging 1.2 rather than 0.9 mm), ending in a slender point consisting of 2-8 cells in a single row. Perichaetial leaves usually not ciliate (sometimes a few ciha present, rarely quite numerous and well developed). Annulus of 2-3 rows of cells scarcely differentiated from the suboral cells.

  • Discussion

    T. delicatulum var. radicans (Kindb.) Crum, Steere & Anders., Bryologist 68: 434.1965 [1966].

    T. recognitumvar. radicans Kindb., Rev. Bryol. 19:103.1892.

    T. philibertii Limpr., Laubm. Deutschl. 2: 835. 1895.

Although the longer stem leaves and their capillary points usually distinguish var. radicans, the leaf apex of T. delicatulum intergrades almost completely with that of the variety. The lack of cilia on the perichaetial leaves is sometimes helpful, though not entirely dependable. The var. peruvianum has stem leaves noticeably plicate when dry and perichaetial leaves distinctly ciliate.
