Description
Species Description - Plants glossy, sparsely subpinnate, up to 4.5 cm long, (with leaves) up to 6 mm wide, occasionally bearing axillary clusters of reddish, filamentous brood bodies. Leaves 1-3 mm long, oblong- to ovate-lanceolate, acute or acuminate, ending in a single long, sharp cell; margins serrulate to serrate above; cells rhomboidal to linear, 7-20 µm, the apical cells somewhat shorter, not differentiated at the border. Dioicous. Setae 8-10 mm long, papillose to hispid throughout. Calyptrae naked or ± scaly, laciniate at base.

Distribution
On moist rock and other substrates at relatively low altitudes; Chiapas and Oaxaca.—Mexico; Guatemala and Costa Rica; northern South America; West Indies.
