Description
Species Description - Herbs, 1.5-3 m tall. Leaves 30-53 X 5-8.5 cm; sheath reticulate. Inflorescences 12-30 X 3-4 cm, prostrate, with 2- or 3-flowered cincinni, 15-25 cm long. Flowers: calyx green, orange in fruit, turbinate, 3-4 mm long; corolla yellow, ca. 12 mm long; labellum spreading, yellow, 10-11 X 8-11 mm. Capsules green, maturing black, globose to ellipsoid, 5-12 mm diam., 10-25-seeded. Seeds with orange to reddish orange aril.
Distribution and Ecology - Fl (Feb), fr (May, Aug); found in nonflooded forest at 200 to 250 m. Gingembre sauvage.
