    Genus Description - Plants small to moderate in size, prostrate, flat, shiny, green or yellow-green, irregularly branched; paraphyllia none. imbricate, wide-spreading and strongly complanate, asymmetric, oblong-cultriform to obovate or orbicular, rounded-obtuse, sometimes apiculate, shortly decurrent; margins inflexed on 1 side at base, entire or serrulate, especially at the apex; costa single, extending beyond the midleaf or short and double, sometimes absent; cells small, smooth, subquadrate to rhombic at the apex, becoming elongate and usually linear below. Perichaetial leaves short-sheathing, lance-acuminate. Setae elongate; capsules exserted, erect or ± inclined, oblong-cylindric, red-brown; annulus present; exostome teeth narrowly lanceolate; yellow-brown and cross-striolate below, hyaline and papillose above, trabeculate at back; endostome a pale-yellow, finely papillose, high basal membrane, linear-lanceolate, keeled, perforate segments, and cilia none, rudimentary, or well-developed and appendiculate. Spores small. Calyptrae cucullate, mostly naked.
